You are our Treasure
Ps 127:3 – Sons are a gift from God ...
Prov 2:4-5 – Search for [wisdom] as you would for silver; seek for it like hidden treasure, then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain understanding of God.
Is 33:6 – The fear of the Lord is His treasure.
Prov 3:15 – Wisdom is more precious than jewels; nothing you desire compares with her.
Prov 20:15 – There is gold and abundance of costly stones, but lips that speak knowledge are a precious jewel.
Prov 31:10 – Who can find a wife of noble character? She is worth far more than rubies.
For Coulter’s 7th birthday, one of the gifts we gave him was a treasure box. It was nothing historic or expensive, and in fact, it was broken and coming apart. But as a child, he was fascinated by the faux carved mahogany keepsake box, with green felt-lined interior and an old-timey key, adorned with gold cords.
So for his birthday, I took it apart and refurbished it, gluing and reinforcing the joints, adding decorative brass edging that I found in my father’s old toolbox to the corners of the lid, and a hidden compartment that I built into the underside of the top, that only he and his mother and I knew about.
In the compartment, I placed a scroll secured with red ribbon containing the message above, listing Bible verses about the greatest treasures in life; him, trust in the Lord, wisdom, knowledge, and a godly wife.
He loved that treasure box and kept it on his nightstand by his bed until the end. He placed other prized possessions in the box over the years; fossils, arrowheads, ancient coins, and pottery chips.
But more importantly, we saw him internalize those true treasures. He knew his Father. He sought knowledge and wisdom. He spoke truth in love (most of the time), and although he never married, he chose well and loved a godly woman.
He was our treasure. I wish he knew how true that was.
Maybe you need to know that today too. Your Heavenly Father treasures you. Not because of what you accomplish or what you can offer, but simply because you are His.
