Memorial Day 2026

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

Today we honor the men and women who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy every day. We also thank the families who carry that loss long after the flags are folded and the ceremonies end.

Loss is something our family and friends understand more deeply this Memorial Day.

Since 2020, our family has participated together in “The Murph” — a workout created to honor Lt. Michael Murphy and all who gave everything in service to this nation. Our youngest son Coulter loved the challenge, the purpose, and the bond of training and suffering alongside family in remembrance of those who sacrificed for us.

In March of 2026, Coulter took his own life at 18 years old. Many of our previous posts celebrated his strength, discipline, resilience, and mental fortitude. What he did not share and what we did not see was the internal battle he was quietly waging beneath the surface.

Coulter did not want to burden anyone with the weight he was carrying. But what he did not understand was that we would have carried anything for him and walked beside him through any darkness.

Now that he is gone, the people who loved him most must carry that weight without him.

Coulter never served in the military, but many veterans and active service members fight a similar unseen battle. We continue to lose many every day to that battle and to suicide.

So today, while we remember those who died defending this country, we also want to say this clearly to anyone suffering in silence:

You are not weak for struggling.
You are not alone.
You are loved more than you know, by your Heavenly Father and by many here on earth.

Please reach out. Talk to someone. Let others carry the weight with you.

One of the beautiful things about the Murph Challenge is that it brings us together and reminds us we were never meant to carry heavy burdens alone. We train together. We endure together. We remember together. We heal together.

We love you, Coulter.
We miss you every day.
And we will continue to carry your light forward.

You Are Loved More than You Know
