Characteristics of a Godly Man
Backpacking the Sawtooth Range in Idaho
So will My word be . . . It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
Because we so desperately want God to bring something good from this devastating loss, we have thought a great deal about what from Coulter's life might be used to encourage someone else.
So we are making a devotional, Characteristics of a Godly Man, available as a free download at CoultersLight.org.
Our prayer is that this devotional will draw someone closer to the Father and this website will be a place where we can remember Coulter, point others toward the hope we have in Christ, and allow the light God reflected through Coulter’s life to continue reaching others.
Our three boys and I spent a lot of time together throughout their childhood and tried to drip in as many life lessons as I could along the way. In their teens, we spent even more time together in a deliberate time of study, lessons, and challenges that we have come to call the “Vision Quest.” It is designed predominantly to explore the question “What does it mean to be a godly man?”
For Coulter, that time was between 14 and 16. We took road trips together, had adventures, acquired skills, studied Scripture, and talked about character, perseverance, stewardship, relationships, faith, love, grace, and of course, the kind of man God calls us to become.
As part of our journey, I wanted to explore the characteristics of a godly man, but I could not find a study that accomplished what I wanted to share with him. So, I compiled a devotional for us to work through together.
We spent hours reading, answering questions, and talking together over this study. I was so proud of his commitment, engagement, and insights in our discussions.
It is time I was immensely grateful for then, and treasure even more now.
I don't know why, in his darkest moment, Coulter could not see the Truth we spent so many hours studying together.
But as I reviewed this devotional, hesitant to share it, I was confronted with the reality that our circumstances, even these, do not make our Father’s words less true.
